Hello! I am Dawn, the Publisher.
I was born into a Catholic family in Durban and educated by the Holy Family sisters. Starting school at St Joseph’s in Smith St (which later moved to St Andrew’s St- the present Diakonia premises) I then moved to Convent High school in Glenmore (now Holy Family College) where I finished matric. My first degree was a B Sc in Botany and Zoology from the University of Natal, Pmburg. This started my serious thirst for knowledge! My second degree is a B SC (Hons) in Clinical Psychology (UNISA) followed by a BA in Religious Studies and English(UNISA) and then an M Phil in Classical Culture (thesis on symbolism in Ancient Egyptian Art) from Stellenbosch University. I also have a University Education Diploma in Mathematics and Biology teaching as well as two Licentiate teaching diplomas in Speech, Drama and Communication, one from Trinity College, London and one from UNISA. I enjoy studying, I enjoy a vast range of topics and I enjoy a challenge! My teaching career began at Carmel College (teaching Matric, Maths and Science), a Jewish school where I learnt a great deal about the beliefs and practices of the Jewish faith. This gave me a deeper insight into the Bible and the life of Jesus who grew up in the Jewish faith. It consequently deepened my own Catholic faith. After a break as a mother of three children, I returned to teach for 10 years at Loreto Convent in Queenswood, Pretoria( Maths and RE), and then 11 years at Thomas More College, Kloof, Durban ( Dramatic Art, Maths and Religious Studies). I have been a member of the Durban Catholic Players’ Guild since 1982 and have directed four productions of the Durban Passion Play. I am presently President of this Guild. I am now involved in adult education, training teachers, as well as corporate training in English reading and writing and Communication. I have written three text books for TVET College courses. As a founder member of Catholics Awake, I began working with the Cardinal 6 years ago. I am greatly honoured to have had access to his writing and am privileged to have worked with him in compiling “The Here and Now Christian”.
